Good News for Tattenhall

The Cheshire Community Action Community Pride Competition 2008, sponsored by Shell, has just held this year’s award ceremony.

The Parish Council is delighted to announce that Tattenhall was Runner Up in the competition for the Best Kept Village in Cheshire, in its population category. In the Community Spirit Awards, for the most active community in Cheshire with a population of under 5000, Tattenhall was Highly Commended.

These awards highlight Tattenhall’s lively community, and the Parish Council would like to thank everyone who was involved.

Tattenhall Sign in Centre of Village

Please read information below and send your views on this proposed sign

Tattenhall parish village centre sign has come to the end of its useful life.

Your Parish Council has sought designs for a replacement of which we can all feel proud.

At its recent meeting, a basis proposal was presented to your council, when the principle was supported and it was agreed that villagers should be consulted for their views.

Please appreciate that the enclosed is a very rough sketch with a basis principle.

It is suggested that the whole thing would be made of metal, which would be galvanised and painted. The intention would be that it would be of the highest quality, to a standard that we can all feel proud, and would need hopefully no ongoing expenditure.

It would be manufactured by a local craftsman.

Its dimensions would be 5ft. 6inches across, and about 12 ft high.

The post would be made in the image of a tree trunk but would be in metal

There would be a couple of squirrels climbing the post to represent the village school.

The branches would have oak leaves and acorns on them.

The sheaf of corn would wrap round the post and would represent Cheshire.

At the next layer up, on the left hand side there would be an outline of a building / structure that represents the village centre.

The right hand image would be of cow and calf representing rural Tattenhall.

The centre is taken up by the "Tattnall" sword, and of course is representative of our historic village.

Above the name Tattenhall, in both corners, there are 3D images of English roses.

In the very top circle is a copy of a Terret ring. This is representative of one such ring found in Tattenhall, which dates back to a century before the Romans came to Britain.

The whole sign would be of open structure, so that it would be a see through sign, and it would be designed to be equally viewable from both sides.

This sign would represent both the village centre and rural Tattenhall. It would indicate our association with Cheshire and England. It would represent the present and the past, and hopefully it would be a village centre sign comparable with any, anywhere, and of which we could all feel proud.

PLEASE, can we have your views on this. We all want it to be special, and to have your input. Do you have views on a church as representing the built part of the village?. Are black and white cow and calf right for our rural area?  Please send us your comments via the 'Contact Us' link on the right hand side of this page.

-----------------------------------------------------It could be well worth your time having a look at the Project Rural Matters Page (through Homewatch Page) to see what local issues may affect you, particularly the issue of leaving laptops in vehicles which can give off a bluetooth signal to a thief who will break into your car even though you think you have put it well out of sight!!

There is now a new police newsletter called the 'Grapevine' which is available to see on the Project Rural Matters Page (via the Homewatch Page - click on Homewatch icon in the right column)

The Homewatch page (click on symbol on right) is updated
as and when information comes in.  However, the Project
Rural Matters and  Chester Watch Briefing Sheet pages are
updated weekly with new important information from the
local Police.  There is also information on Cheshire Police
and how you can give them your views.

From the Homewatch page you will be able to access the
'Lost Dog' page which will show any missing animal, plus those that the Dog Warden is trying to find caring homes for - please have a look.  Occasionally there is also information on cats  and dogs found.
