What is 'Set the Pace - Make the Commitment?
'Set the Pace - Make the Commitment' is a community focused anti-speeding campaign led by Cheshire County Council's Road Safety Unit and supported by our Highways Engineers and Cheshire Police. The campaign asks you, the motorist/passenger, to make a personal written commitment to drive or encourage others to drive at an appropriate speed for the environment and road conditions and always within the legal speed limit; to practise 'safer speed behaviour'. If we are completely truthful, most, if not all of us, can think of a time when we have either driven too fast or have been a passenger with someone else who has exceeded the appropriate or legal limit and we have not asked them to slow down. Signing up to 'Set the Pace' is a non-threatening opportunity for us all to review our behaviour and undertake to either keep to a sensible and legal speed ourselves and encourage others to do the same. There is no legal enforcement involved - details of signatories are not shared with the police or any other third parties so you need not worry about any negative comeback as a result of signing up. It is simply a personal appeal to hearts and minds that with your support we can help break the cycle of misery caused by excessive and inappropriate speed in the communities of Cheshire. Like charity, the process of change must begin at home. If everyone was committed to travelling at safer, appropriate and legal speeds, the concerns and complaints constantly expressed to, and often shared by, the authorities about the dangers caused by the speed of traffic in local communities would be diminished. Concerns like... The safety of
vulnerable road users Hit by a vehicle travelling ....
at 40mph 9 out of 10
at 30mph 8 out of 10 at 20mph, 9 out of 10
