Crime and Arrests for the Chester District

Week ending 7am. Monday 21st. April 2008.

Over the next six weeks I will have two University of Chester students working with me. They will be contacting most of the Home Watchers amongst you, by telephone or Email, just to make sure my records are up to date and everyone is receiving the support they want with their schemes. The students are Emma Moore and Steven McMullin.

If that nice weatherman is true to his word we will be looking at warmer temperatures this week and with the May Bank Holliday looming it can only mean one thing. The season of theft from gardens and garden sheds is upon us. Most garden tools can be made worthless to a thief by disfiguring them with your post code and house number. As big and ugly as you can, engraved, burnt in with a soldering iron, scratched on with a nail, painted on, just something to identify the tool as yours. The same with hanging baskets. They are so easy to steal and so quick to be sold on. Your post code on the basket, with your house number means it can always be traced back to your address. You can mark it on the side that faces the wall if you want, but make it of no value to a thief by permanently marking it with your post code and house number.

A message from Cheshire County Council Trading Standards and Cheshire Constabulary

Please remember to be aware of unwanted doorstep callers.  These cold callers typically arrive unannounced at your door and may pose as gardeners, builders or use other guises to attempt to persuade you to pay large amounts of money for unnecessary work.

Cheshire County Council Trading Standards Service and Cheshire Constabulary advise that you do not buy goods or services at the door and inform any unwanted doorstep caller of this.  We would always recommend that you obtain quotes from several independent traders yourself before deciding on any work you may wish to have carried out.

If you experience unwanted doorstep callers, please do not hesitate to inform Trading Standards on 0845 113 2500.  If you can take down the registration number of any vehicle relating to the caller this will also be helpful.
